Concrete drop from bridge led to engagement

It's a match made in media manipulation heaven.

Former Bob Berg protégé Shannon McCarthy, who left PR powerhouse Berg-Muirhead for Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's staff, is engaged to marry Berg's son Erik Berg.

McCarthy, who now runs her own communications firm, has known Erik Berg for years. The couple renewed their acquaintance after McCarthy nearly died after someone heaved a chunk of concrete onto her car from a bridge over the Lodge Freeway. She is expected to move to Portland, Ore., in January to be with her fiancé, who reportedly is a technical whiz for Intel and runs a nonprofit that brings poor children from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Portland schools.
