Comerica Cityfest 2008 to host AGA ‘Motor City Am Jam’
Adrenaline Games Alliance (AGA) and Modern Skate and Surf join forces to produce live action sports events, emerging music artists at Detroit’s largest summer festival

DETROITComerica Cityfest 2008, running Wednesday, July 2 - Sunday, July 6, will be the exclusive host of the three-day live action sports event titled Motor City Am Jam a sanctioned skateboard, BMX and inline competition produced by the AGA and Modern Skate and Surf, with four retail and skate park locations in Michigan. The Motor City Am Jam will take place Friday, July 4 – Sunday, July 6 in the Fisher Building parking lot at the corner of West Grand Boulevard and Third Avenue.

The Motor City Am Jam schedule includes practice sessions and demonstrations on July 4, a skateboarding competition on July 5 and an in-line skating and BMX bike competition on July 6. There will be “mini ramp” and “street” competitions for each sport, each day.  Contestants will be placed in beginner, intermediate and advanced categories and can register for $10 per contest on www.modernskate.com. To compete, contestants must be 6 years of age or older. The top two winners in each category will receive prizes and be invited to the finals taking place this September at the new Modern Skate Park in Royal Oak.

Top Midwest pros on hand will include pro skateboarder, Garold Vallie, star of ‘Underground Vallie’, a new cable TV show, as well as top BMX and Inline pros.

AGA President/ Modern Skate and Surf Owner George Leichtweis and Michael Solaka, New Center Council President/Cityfest Producer both think Motor City Am Jam is a perfect fit for Cityfest.  “Having been in the actions sports business nearly 30 years, I have seen it grow to near mainstream status.  Our long-term relationship with Comerica Cityfest has allowed us to create an annual event that both our athletes and Cityfest attendees can be excited about for years to come,” said Leichtweis.

“Modern Skate and Surf has always provided one of our top attractions at Comerica Ciyfest, but to have an actual sanctioned extreme sports competition taking place during the festival is a really unique experience for our visitors,” said Solaka.

Comerica Cityfest 2008, celebrating its 20th year, is an annual, five-day outdoor food and culture-rich entertainment street festival in Detroit’s historic New Center held each Fourth of July weekend.  The event exemplifies city life, (what it is and what it could be), in one of Detroit’s fastest growing 24-hour districts.
