DPS ”I’m In” Student Retention Campaign
The Spirit of Detroit is dressed in a Detroit Public Schools “I’m In” T-shirt. The I’m In” Student Retention campaign captured both the national North American Grand Effie Award and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) President’s Award.

Woodward Light Rail Announcement
Federal Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announces federal support for Detroit’s Woodward Light Rail project. Also participating in the announcement were Mayor Dave Bing, Governor Jennifer Granholm, Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, Senator Debbie Stabenow and DIA President and CEO Graham Beal.

The Watermark Detroit
The Spingarn Development, LLC, and a blue ribbon group of investors, announce The Watermark Detroit, a $60 million luxury residential development on Detroit’s east riverfront. The Watermark project is anticipated to be completed by summer of 2009.

The Samaritan Manor
Samaritan Center opened the Samaritan Manor April 30, 2007, the first skilled nursing rehabilitation facility to open in Detroit in more than 20 years.

Arthur Johnson Tribute
Arthur L. Johnson was honored on November 6, 2007 at the Max M. Fisher Music Center for his years of community service. Proceeds from the event benefited the College Bound Kids Learning Center.

Coleman A. Young Foundation’s annual awards dinner honored their 2006 Named Scholars recipients, graduating scholars and presented its first Educator of the Year award.

Detroit Automated Meter Reading Project
Detroit Water and Sewerage Department updates the city’s water system by installing new automated meters in all 275,000 Detroit residences and 3,000 businesses. The program began in the fall of 2007 and will continue through 2010.
