2003 CBC Democratic Presidential Detroit Debate

Situation
Detroit was chosen as one of six locations nationwide for Democratic Presidential Primary Debates in 2003-2004.  The host organization, the Congressional Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute (CBCLI), selected Berg Muirhead to ensure a seamless coordination of event logistics and to handle all media relations for the event, which was broadcast live from Detroit’s historic Fox Theatre by The Fox News Channel.

Solution
Berg Muirhead worked with the CBCLI to develop the event theme, organize a large volunteer staff and set up spin and hospitality rooms and a media center.  Our services also included vendor management, event ticketing services, serving as a liaison between presidential candidates and the media, program book production, travel logistics, media credentialing and identifying sponsorship opportunities.

Results
The 2003 Detroit Democratic Presidential Debate was hailed by the media as one of the best organized of the six debates. Berg Muirhead was praised for our understanding of what journalists needed to do their jobs well. Attendees praised the excellence of the presentation and the attractive keepsake quality of the program book. Most importantly, it gave Detroiters something to be proud of and Michiganders a chance to see how the political process works from their own backyard.
